Currently, the U.S. and Japan are coordinating plans to respond to potential contingencies involving Taiwan and the Philippine.

On Monday, China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning accused the United States and Japan of using the Taiwan issue as an excuse to increase their military deployments in the region.

She reiterated that Taiwan is an “inseparable part of Chinese territory” and described actions aimed at “heightening tensions” around the island as a threat to “regional peace and stability.”

“China firmly opposes any country using the Taiwan issue as an excuse to strengthen military deployments in the region, provoke tensions and confrontations, and undermine regional peace and stability,” Mao stated.

These remarks came after Kyodo News reported that the United States and Japan are coordinating plans to respond to potential contingencies involving Taiwan and the Philippines.

According to the Japanese outlet, these actions could include deploying troops and advanced military systems on Japanese islands and at bases in the Philippine archipelago.

China views the Taiwan issue as the “red line” in relations between Washington and Beijing, particularly given that the Unites States is Taipei’s main supplier of weapons and could deploy military forces in the island in the event of a conflict.

Since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, Taiwan has been self-governed. China has claimed sovereignty over the island, which it considers a breakaway province, and has not ruled out the use of force for its reunification.
