Last month, the director-general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that more than 10,000 Palestinians are waiting to leave Gaza for medical treatment.
On Monday, official sources stated that the Israeli government prevented the departure from Gaza of 150 Palestinian children who were to be transferred to the United Arab Emirates for medical treatment. According to the Wafa news agency, the group, along with family members, had to leave the Ramon air base in southern Israel for the Arab nation on Monday.
Wafa recalled that Benjamin Natenyahu’s cabinet has in recent months delayed or cancelled several trips abroad for injured or sick Gazans. Two weeks earlier, the territory’s health authorities put the number of wounded and sick in need of care abroad at 25,000. Meanwhile, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor put the number of injured people stranded in the coastal enclave with no possibility of receiving medical care elsewhere at more than 11,000, in addition to 10,000 cancer patients and another 2,000 with various ailments.
