The 33-page report is descriptive in nature and comes against the backdrop of a proposal to partially suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
On Tuesday, a report prepared by EU human rights envoy Olaf Skoog ahead of a possible Association Council meeting with Israel revealed numerous violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.
The document, submitted to member states, takes up the positions of specialized organizations that speak of the possible commission of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
It also calls on European Union (EU) member states not to allow the transfer of arms to a country if they know that they will be used for serious violations of international law.
The 33-page report is descriptive in nature and comes against the backdrop of a proposal to partially suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
As the publication makes clear, this agreement provides for trade between the parties worth more than 63 billion euros per year.
The brief also speaks of respect for human rights and democratic principles as an important element of relations.
Earlier, Spain and Ireland asked the European Commission to review the trade part of the agreement with Israel, but the timing of the Association Council meeting with Israel has not yet been specified.
On 29 December 2023, South Africa filed a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague over the situation in the Gaza Strip, asking the court to take temporary measures against the leadership of the Jewish state.
As indicated by the South African authorities, Israeli actions against the population of the Palestinian enclave are a violation of obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
